THE ARTIST BOOK & FINE PRESS LIBRARY

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Our book arts library has three distinct collections:

  • the CODEX Book Arts Reference Library of trade publications, including the Koch Collection of over 2500 books and periodicals
  • the Steven Cortright & Harry Reese (Mostly) Offset Conceptual Artists' Books Collection, including a full run of the journals Hand Papermaking and Visible Language
  • the CODEX Consignment Collection of Artists' Books & Fine Press Books, a sampling of work from our biennial CODEX Book Art Fair & Symposium

The Library's primary goal is to serve educational, research, and scholarship goals.

The Library is available for:

  • Research to encourage writing, scholarship, and publication in the field
  • Consultation and inspiration for individuals and groups
  • CODEX programming which may include:
    • educational seminars and lectures to individuals and groups
    • off-site exhibitions in collaboration with other institutions
    • representation at other book art fairs
    • CODEX publications

The creation of an on-site repository of Artists' Books & Fine Press Books, our Consignment Collection is offered for sale with 75% of the proceeds going directly to the makers of the work. The CODEX Foundation uses 25% of the sales to run the program. The goal being to promote the art of the handmade book, to make the work accessible to the public, and to support the artists, printers, and publishers working in the field.

Contact us for more information or if you are interested in visiting the collection.

Participate in the Consignment Program

You can still participate in the consignment program! The requirements are as follows:

- Must have been an artist who has previously exhibited at one of our biennial fairs
- Participants must have been exhibitors themselves. If someone's work was represented by a gallery or another organization who signed up for a table, we are unable to take it at this time.

Please contact us for more information about how to participate in this exciting program!
