Scheuer, Jennifer: Apteka
Apteka is a carousel book with five scenes, the work is digitally printed from scans of ink wash drawings and has a silkscreen printed cover. The cover includes two independent boards held together with magnets, allowing the book to rest closed, it can be opened in the round, and can be expanded to show al five scenes at once. Scheuer’s work addresses themes of the history of medicine, plants and healing. This book has five scenes traveling through a pharmacy over time – a 17th century pharmacy, a basement, a 19th century pharmacy, a transitional scene with a staircase and an attic with dry plants. The work is in response to visiting a pharmacy museum in Krakow, Poland. The artist constructed the spaces into condensed layered spaces in one point perspective. The third scene has small doors that reveal the content under cabinets and imagery continues behind the layers.
