Volunteers & Interns
Volunteer and Intern Opportunities
The CODEX Foundation is always looking for volunteers, particularly for the Book Fair and Symposium. If you are interested in helping us with our Fair and Symposium. This is a great way to be part of our community and gain free access to these events.
The Foundation also has limited positions for interns and volunteers to help with our day-to-day operations. We are committed to assisting our interns with their career or artistic goals and are committed to helping them find connections throughout the Book Arts world, in the Bay Area, and beyond. While working with us, one can learn the ins and outs of a nonprofit arts organization and gain experience in our letterpress studio, reference library, and/or artist book & fine press library. Most volunteer and intern positions are unpaid, however we do have limited paid internships for those with some basic experience in letterpress printing, the book arts, and/or library skills.
Thank You Volunteers and Interns!

Autumn Duffy
CODEX Volunteer and Volunteer Coordinator | 2023 – Present
I began by printing tickets for CODEX IX and went on to volunteer at that year’s fair — the perfect initiation into the world of book arts!
Autumn then was our Volunteer Coordinator for CODEX X in 2026.
She did an amazing job!

Becky Fischbach
CODEX Volunteer | 2005 – Present
I’ve been a volunteer for CODEX since its beginning, a natural outgrowth of 30+ years designing exhibits and publications for Stanford Libraries Special Collections. The work introduced me to the world of printing, including fine press and artists’ books and their makers, many of whom have become friends. It’s personal. I continue to volunteer for the CODEX Foundation in various capacities including editing text for publications large and small, co-creating exhibits, helping with mailings and setup, arranging flowers for events, and serving as an errand runner at the book fair. When your friends are doing something cool, it’s a privilege to be involved.

CODEX Summer Intern | 2025
My favorite part about my time at CODEX was creating instagram posts… I know that sounds shallow, but I loved spending time with the artists’ books in the collection through photographing and summarizing them. I’ve never been around this kind of work in person. Each book was uniquely inspiring!
I will also always remember CODEX as the place I learned to print on the Vandercook, C&P, and how to organize lead spacing.
