The Artist Book & Fine Press Library

Open to the Public

Our book arts library has three distinct collections:

• the CODEX Book Arts Reference Library of trade publications, including the Koch Collection of over 5000 books and periodicals.
• the Steven Cortright & Harry Reese (Mostly) Offset Conceptual Artists’ Books Collection, including a full run of the journals Hand Papermaking and Visible Language.
• the CODEX Consignment Collection of Artists’ Books & Fine Press Books, a sampling of work from our biennial CODEX Book Art Fair & Symposium.

The Library is available by appointment for:

• Research to encourage writing, scholarship, and publication in the field
• Education for individuals and group visits
• Sales of consigned artists’ books with 75% of the proceeds going to the artists and 25% to CODEX for administrative costs to run the program

The Library is also used for CODEX programming, which may include:

• educational seminars and lectures to individuals and groups
• off-site exhibitions in collaboration with other institutions
• representation at other book art fairs
• CODEX publications
