Letterpress Studio

Our Master Letterpress Studio is used to keep the history, art, and craft of letterpress printing and printmaking alive. We preserve and promote the art of printing from metal type, wood type, photopolymer plates, linoleum and wood blocks, and other printmaking techniques.

We educate interns and volunteers while printing an array of printed ephemera in the studio, including covers for many of our publications. We also offer Printing Poetry Workshops to the public which allows us to collaborate with artists, poets, and writers in the community. Our Real Lead Saloon is an informal gathering of artists, writers & printers led by CODEX co-founder Peter Koch. The group meets on Saturdays since early 2021 to design, hand-set in lead type, print, illustrate, and bind the lyrical writings of friends and collaborators at the CODEX Foundation’s Logan Book Arts Center. Check out their handmade books in our publications section. Keep an eye out for a workshop or contact us about your own group letterpress experience.
