Public Visitor Information

Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center

The CODEX Foundation is thrilled to announce a brand new venue for the 9th International Biennial Book Art Fair: The Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center ("HJK Convention Center" or "HJK") in Oakland, California. An historic landmark, Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center has been host to many important musical, political, and cultural events. You can read more about its history here.

Though we are sad to leave the beautiful scenery of the Craneway Pavilion, we are happy to say that Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center will solve some of our climate issues we've experienced in the past and still offer a spacious venue full of character and charm. With views of Lake Merritt, easy access to BART and other public transit, and directly next door to OMCA (Oakland Museum of California), we feel that the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center will prove to be a great improvement to our Book Fair and hope to be there for many years to come.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. We ask that you please be patient with us during this transition period, as this will be an adjustment for everyone involved. We hope you will join us in our excitement as we take this big leap into the future! We look forward to seeing you in February.

Accessibility & Safety

The Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center is wheelchair accessible at the main entrance. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are also available.

Service animals are allowed inside the arena. No other pets will be permitted.

As in most big cities, it is good to have a level of awareness of your surroundings when making your way around and exploring Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco. There are wonderful restaurants and things to do in all of these cities, however we do advise a certain level of awareness in certain areas. Please see our CODEX Information desk if you have any questions regarding getting around the neighborhoods safely and comfortably. For example, many of us are very comfortable taking public transportation (BART trains, etc.) during the day and evening hours, however some of you, particularly if solo, may be more comfortable traveling with others or taking a Lyft, Uber, or taxi later at night.

Concessions

Food and Drink at the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center will be available for purchase.

NO FOOD or DRINK will be allowed inside the arena (exhibitors excepted).
