This inaugural number of the The CODEX Papers is a first shot over the bow, a clarion call for members of the book arts world to put pen to paper and offer their observations, opinions, and critical analysis of the book, the artist book, and the book arts as they are practiced today. In this first issue we hear from printers, artists, designers, scholars, academics, poets, librarians, curators, and some of who play several of these roles. An international perspective and a diverse viewpoint is essential to our aims and our authors hail from Australia, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United States. The CODEX Papers speaks to readers who have some advanced understanding of printing, publishing, and interpretation of the artist’s book, but also to those who wish to share information about exhibitions, book shops, libraries, or other bookish matters.
