Outreach

The CODEX Foundation works in conjunction with other bibliophilic and book arts organizations in the Bay Area such as these Berkeley organizations: Colophon Club, KALA Art Institute, UC Berkeley Environmental Design Library, UC Berkeley Bancroft Library; and these Bay Area institutions: San Francisco Center for the Book, Book Club of California, Arion Press, Letterform Archive, Stanford University Libraries.

The CODEX Foundation also supports national and international book arts activities and organizations. We sponsored two student scholarships to attend the annual conference at the College Book Art Association and we have supported organizations like American Printing History Association, Fine Press Book Association, Guild of Bookworkers, and more.

We currently have internship and volunteer programs in place to engage the local community. As well as offering tours, lectures, and events in our Logan Book Arts Center which houses our flex-space, master letterpress print studio, research library, and publishing headquarters.

We have collaborated in cross border outreach programs with four initiatives: CODEXMexico, CODEXAustralia, CODEXNordica, and CODEXChina. Each of these CODEX events made a special effort to invite and involve artists and scholars from these countries while headlining symposium speakers and exhibiting artists’ work.

In addition, the CODEX Foundation and Stanford University coordinated with CODEXMexico to organize a very successful Mexican and Californian book arts exhibit, including a catalogue and conferences, that traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico City, Puebla and Washington D.C. in 2011 and 2012.

CODEXAustralia also hosted its first Book Fair and Symposium – Book, Art, Object, Maker – on March 1 & 2, 2014 in Melbourne which much success! They also were included in the exhibit in Washington D.C. with CODEXMexico.

We have continued to promote the work of CODEXNordica as well through social media and newsletter posts as they continue their ongoing exhibitions, fairs, and events.

The CODEX Foundation is interested in collaborating with local, regional, national, and international organizations to share our expertise and passion for artists’ books and to support artists and scholars in the field.
